Q&A with your local branch manager:

What are some of the most common wildlife issues that homeowners face in your area?
Rats and grey squirrels are known to chew into homes and destroy attic and crawlspace insulation. They are capable of causing thousands of dollars in structural damage to the home. They are also known to chew on wires which may cause house fires. Trapping, exclusion, and sanitation of contaminated areas are required to solve issues for these pests. Birds are known to utilize construction gaps or voids on a home and build nests. They may carry bird mites which will spread into a home and require more intense methods of fumigation to solve the issue. Their droppings accumulate where activity is present and have the potential to cause serious health issues. Bird removal, exclusion, and sanitation of contaminated areas are required to solve issues for these pests. Snakes enter into yards and homes where people and pets are present. A venomous snake can severely injure children, adults, and pets. The pests are attracted to mice/rats, frogs, lizards, insects, and other small related animals. The food source must be eliminated to reduce the likelihood of snakes. Trapping and deterrents are also required to solve and prevent snake issues in an area.

How do the seasons affect wildlife activity in your area?
Temperatures and breeding habits affect wildlife in many ways. Traditionally, warmer temperatures bring more wildlife issues. In the Spring and Summer, we more commonly deal with Rats, Grey Squirrels, Birds, and Snakes. In the Fall and Winter, we more commonly deal with Rats, Grey Squirrels, and Raccoons.

Any prevention tips for residents in your area?
Hire Trutech to provide preventive services. We control food sources for the pests, apply deterrents, eliminate attractive harborage areas, and seal ALL entry points on a home to prevent wildlife issues. We use an Integrated Pest Management approach which looks to provide a solution without using any pesticides or unnatural products. Those are a last resort option if necessary. We work with the customer to solve and prevent wildlife issues.

When should homeowners call Trutech?
As soon as they are suspicious of pest/wildlife activity or even before any activity has taken place. Preventive measures cost less than dealing with issues after the pest has arrived.

I called Trutech during a quick google search, as I had a bird fall down into my fireplace and am terrified of birds. There was no way I was going to be able to remove him by myself. I called and within the hour I had a gentleman named Stephen (in the Virginia Beach area) call me back. Within 30 minutes after that he was at my home and had the bird out in less than 5 minutes and also fixed the hole in the screen at the top of the fireplace, which we had known needed to be replaced (this wasn’t the first bird incident but normally my husband is here to deal wth it) but my husband didn’t have a ladder big enough to get up and fix it. Stephen fixed it within a half hour. I paid 289 for everything which is expensive compared to knowing my husband could do it all for free. But when you’re in a bind or have a situation that you cannot deal with on your own, I find that to be a fair price-especially considering how quickly he was over here and now I don’t have to (hopefully) worry about that happening again. I would definitely recommend them for any sort of animal/pest removal.
